Genre: Young Adult Fiction
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Queen of Shadows was one of my absolute favorite books out of the entire series, I experienced the full range of the emotional spectrum while reading this book and absolutely fell in love with Aelin Galathynius. In this novel Aelin returns to Rifthold despite the imminent danger it poses to herself personally in order to rally the rebellion, defeat the King, and free her friend Dorian and magic. This is the first time we see how clever Aelin is and while she is mistrustful even of her closest allies, she is also able to recognize their strengths and is exceptionally loyal to them. This novel reminded me of a complicated game of chess and by the end I realized she had been seeing the game three steps ahead the entire time and that she had laid the ground work for everything to fall into place, for her enemies to be trapped in their own scheming, and through this to be able to free her kingdom. It left me on edge the entire time and it’s what makes this series a must-read for any adult fantasy lovers to me.
This book was filled with so much action and drama and I was hanging on the edge of my seat for the entire novel. I couldn’t put it down, I took it with me to eat, go to the bathroom, and bathe, and finished it in less than a day because I was so overwhelmed by everything in it. I don’t give 10 out of 10 stars very often because I am quite picky about my novels, but this book broke me and I loved everything about it.
This series is a must-read for any young-adult fantasy lovers. It’s action-packed and the plot keeps me riveted throughout every novel including this one. Read the entire Throne of Glass Series: Assassin's Blade, Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms, Tower of Dawn, Kingdom of Ash.
