Genre: Young Adult Fiction
Author: Sarah J. Maas
This book by itself was a fairly good novel, I loved the character arc and the introduction of new characters and a new part of the world and in this novel, Sarah J. Maas introduced a lot of characters of color and I saw many parallels with the real-life culture of the Mongol empire which originated in what is now Mongolia. I wasn’t a fan of how Sarah J. Maas framed her writing around Chaol’s disability and I felt that some of it was ableist and could have been improved by consulting people with real disabilities about how her writing could be potentially damaging to young audiences with paraplegia. What I did appreciate about her writing surrounding Chaol’s disability though is his coming to terms with the disability.
This series is a must-read for any young-adult fantasy lovers. It’s action-packed and the plot keeps me riveted throughout every novel including this one. Read the entire Throne of Glass Series: Assassin's Blade, Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms, Tower of Dawn, Kingdom of Ash.
